Swedish Quake Star Magnus "fox" Olsson will join the mousesports Quake Live team. The 25-year-old Swede is one of the worlds best Quake players and was one of the key players of legendary iCE cLIMBERS team. Now he's competing for mouz!
Whoever is interested in FPS videogames and the Quake series should know fox along with players like Cooller or czm. The Swede Magnus "fox" Olsson is one of the worlds best Quake players for years and gathered countless awards in his career with Quake 2, Quake 3, Quake 4 and now Quake Live.
Olsson will join the mousesports Quake Live team and be the second member, besides Anton "Cooller" Singov. His first major event for mousesports will be the Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge Dubai at the end of this week.
Statement mousesports:
We are happy to add exactly the player we wanted to our roster. Crucial for making him an offer was, among his immense experience, the fact that he excels himself in deciding moments and as an opponent and as a spectator you always have to think about him as a favorite in every tournament. Furthermore his professional attitude towards professional gaming convinced us. These factors make fox one of the best cyberathletes in the world.
Interview with Magnus "fox" Olsson
After all these years of professional gaming, we've seen many faces disappearing from the stage, but you're still one of the best Quake players since the rise of legendary iCE cLIMBERS team in 1998. What is your motivation to continue gaming on a professional level?
Well, what can I say. I’ve been enjoying the life-style that comes with professional gaming. You get to travel around the world for free, meet up with distant friends and have a lot of free time in between. I think that stacks up well to an ordinary job. In addition to those things I’d say I’m a gamer at heart and simply enjoy some FPS action.
Mousesports is one of the leading professional gaming brands worldwide and the home of several famous gaming superstars. With your addition another star player joins mousesports - in which way is mousesports somehow different from your past teams (e.g. FPO & LLL)?
What made me go for mousesports was probably all the nice things that others have said about the organization and management. Other players/people have been very happy with Mouz and I respect their input.
IEM Dubai coming up later this week. You will be in Dubai from October, 16th to compete with 15 other Quakers for the IEM Dubai Quake Live title. How is your current shape and who will be your toughest opponents to beat and why?
I think my current shape is pretty decent. I feel that tactically I am well versed; the aim just has to go with it. It would be silly not to give Rapha credit for being the favorite. I hope I can be the first to end his reign.
In Dubai we'll also see the comeback of one of the most talked about Quakers of all time: your new teammate Cooller will enter his very first QL tourney after a long absence from professional gaming, only taking part in the ASUS Cups with Quake 3 for fun. Do you think, he will be a real threat after his long absence from gaming?
He has been training very hard now and I definitely think he’s caught up to the others. No one should count him out of the game. QuakeLive suits his gamestyle quite well I would say. Before that he kept playing Q3 tournaments in Russia so I wouldn’t say he was all that rusty.
I know, you've been a very early beta tester of Quake Live. With QL being updated every week and the very beginner-friendly UI, do you think, we will have a lot of fun and even more Quake players with QL in the next years? Does QL progress in the correct direction?
It is definitely heading in the right direction, although I would certainly like to see it done faster. QuakeLive already has over a million registered accounts, and that’s a beta without any advertising. I’m very excited to see the activity after QL goes out of beta and id Software/ZeniMax makes a full marketing push. I’m optimistic.
What QL is definetely missing is a spectating client system just like GTV for Quake 3. Do you have any secret information about it to share with us?
I don’t know id’s real intentions there. They are certainly dedicated to bringing us ways to spectate but no one knows in which way. There are things that speak for GTV and there are other advantages to video streams, such as audio commentary. Perhaps we will see a merge of these things. Time will tell.
