LAN party falls victim to politics

Written by mouz|veX at 03.07.2009 - 15:25

After the cancellation of multiple Intel Friday Night Games, the first LAN party falls victim to current politics. The Convention-X-Treme, one of the most popular gatherings of gamers in the German state of Baden-Wüttemberg had to be cancelled.

The local government of Karlsdorf-Neuthard demanded the host to abdicate the use of Counter-Strike and Warcraft III as well as other games commonly known as “Killergames“. However those games are the cornerstone of almost every LAN party that targets to invite thousands of teenagers every year to enjoy their hobby.

Understandably the host felt he wasn‘t in the position to hold the party without those cornerstone games of E-Sports. After all, over 400 gamers don’t want to enjoy playing UNO and ludo. The Convention-X-Treme were supposed to take place from the 28th to 30th of August 2009 and offered up to 430 spots.

In addition, the computer club Karlsdorf-Neuthard fear they could lose their financial backing and worry about their future survival.

Attendance fees will be refund in the coming days/weeks.

Juicy: According to readmore.de the local gun club will fill in and hold their tournament for childs under 14 years of age. Go figure...
