SC2 DreamHack Open: Stockholm - StarCraft II

ThorZaIN wins DreamHack Open

Written by René at 23.04.2012 - 11:50

Our Swedish Terran Marcus 'ThorZaIN' Eklöf has won the DreamHack Open: Stockholm tournament yesterday. This marks his second major tournament victory and his first after a longer run without a major title after his glorious TSL3 championship.

The DreamHack Open in Stockhol, Sweden was one of the bigger tournaments of the StarCraft II circus lately. With several players including the current GSL Code S participant Johan 'NaNiwa' Lucchesi cancelling their MLG appearances in order to compete at DreamHack Open, aswell as the majority of Europes StarCraft II elite, it was meant to be one of the major SC2 tournaments in the first half of 2012.

mousesports has sent a total of three players to compete at the event: ESWC Vice Champion Grzegorz 'MaNa' Komincz, IEM gamescom Champion Stefan 'MorroW' Andersson and TSL3 winner Marcus 'ThorZaIN' Eklöf. All three players made it to the third and final groupstage, where MorroW was facing Protosser, LaLuSh and TLO. With only one loss to the Finnish Protosser, MorroW went through his group on first place, advancing to the playoffs.

In group B it was ThorZaIN who won all his games 2-0 against SjoW, Roll and SortOf to convincly winning his group with 6-0 stats, while MaNa suffered a tough defeat by losing 1-2 to both Monster from Korea aswell as PvP specialist elfi from Finland. With two losses and only one 2-0 victory over RunA, MaNa wasn't able to advance to the playoffs.

Later on, ThorZaIN won 2-0 over Cytoplasm, only to defeat Socke 2-0 aswell, who kicked MorroW out of the tournament in the very first playoff round. By defeating both Korean players Monster (2-1 in semifinal) and Polt (3-1 in Grand Final), ThorZaIN secured himself another top placement at a DreamHack tournament, claiming his first championship after his TSL3 run in 2011.
