Next up was a rematch of the group stage match vs stermy. Although I was already top 3 I still wanted to achieve higher. It was a wild ride but in the end I came out victorious over stermy 2-1. It was a major accomplishment for me, being that I hadn't yet beat him in tourney play. This win would put me on stage in a couple hours vs Toxic in the grand finals. The stage was outside and it wasn't to good of weather. Another downside to playing outside is the glare on the screens. But, we were playing under the same conditions so all was far. In the end, he squeezed out two straight victories to take home his 7th title in a row. They were very close games on galang and placebo effect. Not a bad showing and it was all over in 2 days. With the 1v1 tourney completed it was relax time. And on Saturday, we would have a fun 2v2 tournament. I was teamed up with Cypher. Now team-deathmatch isn't my game so I wasn't really enthusiastic about playing. I really just wanted to try and have fun. That wasn't the case. Between me not knowing maps and a huge language barrier between me and cypher, we got crushed on just about every map we played. It was torture to play, and I'll take full blame! 2v2 just isn't my game and I was just going through the motions. I came to play the 1v1 and when that was over it was relax time. The days seemed to get longer starting on Saturday. There really wasn't much to do around the venue.
With the 2v2 taking up the morning and early afternoon I found my self starving because we really received no break to go eat and lunch ended at 3pm so by the time we lost our matches I had lost the chance to eat too. I don't know why but the WCG staff also only had 1 bus back to the hotel and that was around 9pm. So now we had to sit around for 6 hours doing nothing with no good food. The Quake community there, GGL writers, shoutcasters from ITG, the players, and the player managers are all fun to be with. We just mainly spent a lot of time talking, and just basically wasting time. Time didn't go by fast, but it went faster than it seemed. Soon, we were able to go home , relax, eat , play some poker and get up again in the morning to spend another day doing nothing at the venue. Come Sunday, there was one mission, go on stage and receive our checks and trophies. Although we had to wait, it was all worth it. I don't look forward to making the podium for this sole reason, but it is enjoyable when you do get on stage and have a moment for yourself. After another looong day we did our duties on stage and then waited and waited for a bus to go home. The real bad thing about coming home hungry and late on Sunday is, nothing is open! We found no restaurants open this late and we were really mad. We had to settle for McDonalds, a restaurant that I only go to if I cannot find any other option. After a big mac meal we were back at the hotel playing poker. I didn't really feel like playing but I donated some money to the cause. I was just tired and I wanted to relax. I also had a 10:30am flight and I was looking to get back to Berlin.
After a few hours sleep I woke up around 7:30 ready to meet Black2lip and toxic and Sizah to catch the free shuttle to the airport. Unfortunately, the traffic was so bad in Milano that the shuttle was in a deadlock on the freeway. We waited and waited and waited, then decided to get a cab. We were really fortunate to make it to the airport on time. I thought for sure I would be sitting for the next flight to Berlin. One of the things that makes me anxious is not knowing if I will miss my flight b/c of traffic. Everything went OK this time and and I got home fast. Now next up is picking up my girlfriend on Tuesday and finding a place to wash my clothes. My first game plan is to wash my underwear by hand. that is no problem but I have many jeans and shirts to wash so hopefully I can sort this out as soon as possible. Luckily I was able to stock up on free gear from WCG and GGL and I still have a couple mousesports t-shirts that aren't used! Now I have a little time to relax. I will probably take a couple days off of quake and then get back to practising a lot. I will also have some time to explore around Berlin. I think I'm on the outskirts of the city right now but I plan on venturing into it to see what its all about. I don't know what cool things there are to do or see but I'm sure ill get some help. So, once I get out there ill come back with some reports. So long for now.
