Interview with gob b

Hello Fatih, yesterday you came back to Germany after the Kode5 Finals and you were able to sleep some nights about your early elimination. What do you think about the course of the tournament some days after?

gob b: The Tournament was a catastrophe. We never found our way inside the game and were not able to bring our generally performance. In addition we made a lot of individual mistakes. The next point was the communication – we had not played with Ventrilo. The tournament was in our opinion not so good organized. Manuel and I had to travel to Moscow very late because of school and job and so we were very late at the event. Unfortunately we had to wait three hours in the hotel lobby to get our keys and were able to sleep only four hours because we had to go with the KODE5 Crew and the teams to the opening ceremony. After a night with less sleep and a waiting time of 10 hours it is not so easy to play the best Counter-Strike. Of course this is not an apology but it is one more fact for our performance on the event.

Hellraisers was your first opponent in the group stage. The map was de_nuke and before you were very confident to win the game. What happened that you make a draw in the game after a good first halftime as terror and eleven rounds?

gob b: We played very good as terror. Our tactics worked and we found fast inside the game. Sadly we made a big mistake: we believed in our strength as CT on de_nuke because of our good results on the ESL Masters. Because of that result we had disregarded the CT side at the train sessions. Who watched the game versus Hellraisers knowsthat we should had won the game. We had played very stupid in many situations so that we were unable to win the game and because we had to save the money often.

After that you played versus Roccat: same map, you started again as terror and get 9 rounds. Why is it so difficult for you to get the CT-rounds you need? Were it the same reasons when you lost against Roccat as in the match against Hellraisers?

gob b: It were the similar reasons: the main reason was our bad communication. The event was quite noisy but we had decided to play without Ventrilo. That is why very important information were not heard by us and we did not win the important rounds. But we have to say that Roccat was very good as terror and it was not easy to protect the bomb spot against them.

Versus Dark Passage which is known as a dark horse in the Counter-Strike scene you had difficulties. You were able to start as CT and leave nine rounds to the terrorists. After, you were able to get ten terrorist-rounds with skill and some luck. Why was the game such a close thing?

gob b: So the game was very important for the group stage because we had to win the game to get a chance for the playoffs. Unfortunately Roccat was exactly behind us and if they had won we got the chance to get a rematch versus HR. That was all the time in our heads and our own game (versus DP) was secondary. So DP was able to win many rounds as terrorist with their fantastic AWP and we woke up very late and had to decide many rounds by single performances.

de_nuke and de_train are known as maps for CT’s. Essential in your games were the wins as terror. Is it right when I say that you made these maps to maps which are better for terrorists?

gob b: Which made the whole tournament t-sided was the TFTs. It is very difficult to overcome more than one person as CT. Furthermore all teams had trained their tactics as terrorist and so it was simply difficult to defend. At the end of the tournament fnatic wanted to start unsolicited as terrorist on de_nuke. Before the tournament someone told us that we will play at CRTs – if we had known that we will play on TFTs we would have trained on our BenQ monitors.

How did you train for the Kod5 Finals?

gob b: We tried to work on our chinks and had improved our game. Cengiz and Julz tried to help us with tactics and I watched demos diligently.

What did you learn by your early elimination? Will you change something in your preparation for the next events and if you will what will it be?

gob b: Personally I think we played behind our possibilities. I had a very good feeling before this tournament and I think we would have changed something in the second day for example played with Ventrilo. In my opinion we were very well prepared but we had not enough talk about nuke CT before the tournament.

Do you want to say something to your fans?

gob b: For our early elimination we are very sorry but already in the next event we will make it better. (smile)

Thank you for the interview.
