SC2 ESL Pro Series Summer 2012 - StarCraft II

HasuObs secures EPS Vice Title

Written by René at 31.08.2012 - 10:18

Former three-time ESL Pro Series Champion Dennis "HasuObs" Schneider secured himself the EPS Summer 2012 Vice Championship this last weekend. HasuObs, who replaced Korean player REAL defeated both DarK.FoRcE and Socke in his progression to the Grand Final.

The defending ESL Pro Series Champion Dennis "HasuObs" Schneider won the Silver Medal at this years Summer Edition. The German Protoss player had a good run, defeating Jonathan "DarK.FoRcE" Belke from team Alternate aTTaX 3-1 in a PvZ series. Entombed Valley, Cloud Kingdom and Metropolis went to HasuObs, while DarK.FoRcE was able to take Daybreak.

In the semifinals, HasuObs met the two-time EPS champion Giacomo "Socke" Thüs (Alternate aTTaX). In a game which was considered an anticipated Grand Final, the former WC3 player HasuObs came out victorious, defeating his German arch rival 3-1 in a Best-of-Five series on Cloud Kingdom, Daybreak and Ohana to advance to the Grand Final where he met newcomer Hanfy. Socke was later able to secure himself the Bronze Medal of the Summer season by winning over GoOdy.

While HasuObs powered his way through the upper part of the bracket against two other German heavyweights, it was the rather unknown Zerg player Fabian "Hanfy" Kattner who defeated both Delphi and GoOdy in the lower part of the bracket to advance to surprise everyone by advancing to the Grand Final, facing HasuObs.

In a back and forth series, where Hanfy took Daybreak and Ohana, while HasuObs countered two times with a victory on Cloud Kingdom and Metropolis, it all came down to Antiga Shipyard to decide who will be crowned new ESL Pro Series champion - the old veteran and reigning champion HasuObs or the unknown newcomer Hanfy. In the end, Hanfy overwhelmed HasuObs with his Zerg forces, who did some minor mistakes in the game earlier, causing him to lose a fair amount of his army supply before Hanfy decided to attack.

In Hanfy, the ESL Pro Series has found it's second surprising Champion this Summer season, after dotpiXels have been able to win the Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament, after several years of mousesports domination, who closed it's CS 1.6 section before the season.
